HIST-7B-HIST/U.S. SINCE 1865-L3-23351

This is an ONLINE HYBRID (meets in class every week and has an online component every week) 12 WEEK ACCELERATED introductory survey course of United States history from the end of the Civil War to the present.
Major course themes will surround the social, cultural, political, and economic factors that contributed to the growth of the U.S. nation on both the domestic and international levels. The class will also follow the progression of issues surrounding race, class, ethnicity, and gender. Special attention is given to questions regarding what it has historically meant to be a U.S. citizen. While the course will address large institutions more broadly, readings will also focus in on many of the individual lives of those who were affected by and helped to transform those larger institutions.

Specific emphasis is placed on students developing historical understanding as well as critical thinking and creative thinking skills and practices to become more informed citizens and gain a deeper understanding of the culture, politics, and society of the United States.

Students with questions or concerns should please contact the instructor Blake Johnson at bsjohnson@peralta.edu.
