Periodicals are issued on a regular or "periodic" basis, such as every day, every week, every month,  every three months (quarterly), or every six months (bi-annually).

Periodicals are usually separated into four major groups:

  • popular magazines
  • scholarly journals
  • trade publications
  • newspapers
