Types of Periodical Databases: General
General Periodical Databases
- Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
- Is your topic currently in the news?
- Are you not sure where your topic might fit?
If so, start with one of the general databases. These cover a wide range of subjects and often include articles from different kinds of periodicals. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:
- Academic Search Complete (from EBSCOHost)
- Provides access to full-text journals covering a broad range of subject areas, including business, education, literature, political science, and psychology.
- Gale Academic OneFile Select (from Gale)
- Includes articles from magazines and newspapers on many topics, from 1980 to present. Most are full text.
