Getting important information
If campus is shut down, students enrolled in classes that meet in person should take the following actions, in this order:
- Check your Peralta email
- Check Canvas
- Contact your instructor
- Contact your dean or chair
1. Check your Peralta email
- If you do not remember how to log into your Peralta email, follow the Login and Password Reset instructions - link opens new window. Links to an external site.
- If you are unable to reset your own password and access the Student Portal, please send an email to helpdesk@cc.peralta.edu. Be sure to give your name, student ID, and explain what happened.
- If you forward your Peralta email to another address (for example, Yahoo or Gmail), then check your other email account.

3. Contact your instructor
- Email your instructor
- Use the Canvas Inbox
- Use the Canvas Student app Links to an external site. to contact your instructor.
To help your instructor, include these details no matter what:
- List the course name in the subject line.
- Introduce yourself with your full name.
- Make your question(s) as specific as possible.
- Tell your instructor what you tried before contacting him/her.
4. Contact your dean or chair
As a last resort, if you do not receive instructor response after 24 hours, email your departmental dean or chair.
