Technology: Computer Specifications
It is the student's responsibility to ensure all requirements are met prior to the start of the semester.
- Screen Size - Minimum of 13 inches, which is the average size of a notebook computer. If your device has a smaller screen, use the Canvas mobile app.

Computer Speed and Processor:
- Use a computer 5 years old or newer when possible
- 4GB of RAM (more is better)
- 2GHz processor

Desktop or Laptop Operating Systems:
- Windows 7 and newer (users on Windows 10 need to download the Windows 10 Anniversary Update Links to an external site. to submit Canvas assignments)
- Mac OSX 10.6 and newer
- Linux - chromeOS

Internet Speed:
- Along with compatibility and web standards, Canvas has been carefully crafted to accommodate low bandwidth environments.
- Minimum of 512kbps

Screen Readers:
- Macintosh: VoiceOver Links to an external site. (latest version for Safari)
- PC: JAWS Links to an external site. (latest version for Internet Explorer)
- PC: NVDA Links to an external site. (latest version for Firefox)
- There is no screen reader support for Canvas in Chrome
Webcam and Microphone (optional)
A webcam and microphone are only needed if you plan to record audio and video in your Canvas course. If your computer or mobile device does not have a built in webcam or microphone, you will need to purchase and install these on your computer or device in order to record. Most mobile devices have these built in, but there may be issues with using Flash on iOS. More information is provided in the following section on Mobile Devices.
