This 100% ONLINE course studies European history from the beginnings of human civilizations in and around Europe to 1500 CE (“Common Era”). This is a history spanning such major eras as the rise of Greek city-states and culture, the Roman Republic and Roman Empire, the rise of monotheism in Europe and the fall of the Roman Empire, feudalism and the Middle Ages, the Black Death, and the Renaissance and rise of European states. Major themes we focus on include the social, cultural, political, and economic factors influencing the development of European peoples and societies and the class also follows the progression of religion, philosophy, and art as they influenced the development of early European civilizations.

Specific emphasis will be placed on students developing historical understanding as well as critical thinking skills and practices through an examination of early history to better understand the world today and the people in it.
