Course Syllabus
Course Description
Identification and development of resources that facilitate college success: High-performance learning utilizing information organization and management, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, effective time management, learning styles and strategies and memory theory, goal setting and educational planning, and campus/ community resources.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe and apply essential study skills and strategies to succeed in college.
- Actively participate in classroom discussions and activities related to course content.
- Identify, access, and use educational and campus resources (individuals, programs, services, electronic and the like) to plan and pursue their academic, career, and personal goals.
- Clearly state their academic and/or career goal(s) and record them in a Student Educational Plan (SEP).
Course Objectives:
- Apply critical thinking skills when completing assignments and other requirements to success in college-level coursework.
- Analyze the origin and application of student attitudes, motivation and behaviors and their impact on college success.
- Apply time-management techniques to formulate a study plan.
- Utilize effective note-taking techniques.
- Demonstrate methods for reading and extracting information from textbooks.
- Apply effective memory techniques to complete assignments and function effectively in and outside the classroom.
- Employ test-taking methods that improve preparation for and performance on tests.
- Identify their own learning style and apply strategies to maximize their ability to learn in and outside of the classroom.
- Utilize library resources to prepare for and complete college-level assignments.
- Describe issues related to cultural, ethnic, and other forms of diversity and function respectfully and effectively in a diverse environment.
- Develop and maintain relationships that impact their ability to reach their academic goals.
- Construct, analyze, and maintain personal management charts of time and energy.

Grading
Expect to read two chapters and complete three related assignments each week. Weekly assignments will include a combination of chapter activities, worksheets, and discussions.

This course can also be taken as Pass/No Pass. You must choose this option in your Student Center or by contacting Admissions and Records. If you choose to complete this course as Pass/No Pass you must earn a minimum of 70% (C) of the total possible points to receive a “Pass” grade.

- All first week assignments need to be completed and submitted by the due date to avoid possibly being dropped from the class.
