Textbook: Great news: your textbook for this class is available for free online!
Calculus, Volume 1 from OpenStax, ISBN 1-947172-13-1
You have a couple options to obtain this book:
Online Homework: Online Homework MyOpenMath (MOM) is free. You must do the homework and take the exams in the Canvas.
Course Website: Canvas will be course website as doing homework assignments and taking exam as the Spring semester progresses. For technical or website problems, contact Canvas Support at 877-930-1126, 24/7.
Course/Catalog Description: This course introduces theorems on limits and continuous functions, derivatives, differentials and applications: Fundamental theorems of calculus and applications; properties of exponential, logarithmic, and inverse trigonometric functions, and hyperbolic functions.
Learning at a distance may be a very different environment for you.
You will generally set your own schedules, participate in class activities at
your convenience, and work at your own pace. You may spend some additional time online during the first few weeks while you become acclimated to the online class format and you may feel overwhelmed. You should also be prepared to spend approximately at least 10 hours per week online completing lessons, activities, doing homework and participating in class discussions. Finally, you may want to incorporate these tips to help you get started:
- Set yourself a schedule -- check the Canvas early in the class week to see what tasks you'll need to work on for the week.
- Since we have embedded tutor, we will have group activity in the breakout room at the Zoom in the last 30 minutes in every class meets. I highly recommend you that turn on camera and micro phone in the group activity.
Ongoing Attendance/Participation
Attendance in an online course works a little differently. That gives us all a little more flexibility in terms of when to work on the course material. I do expect that you login to this course at least once a day to "attend" to the activities that need to be completed.
Netiquette
- Always Communicate Using Netiquette
- Be polite to your classmates & respect differences of opinion.
- Remember that our Canvas site is our collaborative learning space.
Need Help Forum
There is a discussion forum set up for you to post questions to your peers in case you need help with something that a classmate might know. I encourage you to reach out to each other in that forum. This will be 5% as participation of grade. You should post at least twice for the entire semester to earn the full credit.
Rules
All course work for each week is due by Sunday Midnight of that week.
Technology
Desmos: Available for free on Website https://www.desmos.com
Calculator: TI-83 or TI-84 (graphic calculator) or any scientific calculator is recommended.
You are encouraged to use the technology on your homework and exam.
Grading Policy: We will have weekly homework assignments, three exams and a final exam. One lowest score will be dropped from exams category not from final exam. A student must earn above or equal to 70% to pass the course. The break-down as follows.
